Hugh Garner Housing Co-operative Inc., in partnership with the CHFT (Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto) Charitable Fund, is working to raise funds for the Green Roof Project.

This project, while creating many environmental benefits, will provide an opportunity to educate co-op and community members about the positive environmental impact of green roofs and green space in a completely barrier-free environment.

The Fund is a charitable non-profit organization that assists housing co-operatives and their residents to create and access educational, job training, and other community development programs. You can learn more about CHFT, by clicking on the CHFT link to the left.

The Fund is Hugh Garner Co-op’s charitable host and provides charitable tax receipts for cash donations.

You can donate using your credit card by clicking on the donate now button at the top of this page. It will take you to the secure CHFT page on the canadahelps.org website. Once you are there, please enter the amount you wish to donate, click on "Make donation" and then select Number 5-Green Roof Project in the Fund drop down menu.

Or you can send a cheque in the mail.

Donations in Recognition and Memory

In his famous poem, Joyce Kilmer was inspired to write,

“I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.”

Trees continue to inspire us by providing a link to the natural world. For city dwellers that link is even more important, which is the reason our members asked for trees in our roofscape garden. Eight stories above city streets, trees will be providing their ages-old inspiration.

And what garden is complete without planters filled with flowers, a couple of benches, a table or two for a relaxing summer evening? To accommodate community needs as well as our own members, tables and benches will be built to be accessible for folks with mobility needs – accessible for wheelchairs and scooters.

With your generous help, the Hugh Garner Green Roof will continue to serve community needs, providing accessible facilities for all of us to enjoy, and with trees contributing their dual role — food for the soul and their air-cleansing capabilities.

All of these additions can be purchased, and donations will be recognized with engraved plaques mounted in selected display areas on the Co-op South Green Roof as well as the Hugh Garner Green Roof website, www.hughgarnergreenroof.ca.
