North Roof

North Roof Design Considerations

The North Roof, though not accessible by users, will also be “greened” to improve the lifespan of our roof as well as provide insulation and space for the implementation of alternative energy sources.  An “extensive” green roof will be built on this section, which will mostly be covered with a field of hardy low alpine planting.

North Roof Design Elements

Energy and water saving systems such as:

  • Evaporative cooling system
  • Flat plate solar collectors to heat water and reduce natural gas consumption
  • Photovoltaic panels to power sprinkler pump and reduce electricity use
  • Summer passive cooling
  • Storm-water reservoir/irrigation system

Project Team

The Hugh Garner Co-op is run by its members on a volunteer basis. The Green Committee is a Committee of the Hugh Garner Housing Co-operative volunteer Board of Directors.

The team of Monica E Kuhn Architect, Moss Sund Inc., Sustainable EDGE, kh Davis Consulting, Flynn Canada will be involved in all stages up to and including the final design and construction.
